On the eve of India’s 72nd Independence Day, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi announced that his government would launch an ambitious healthcare scheme, called Ayushman Bharat-National Health Protection Scheme (AB-NHPS), also dubbed as Modicare, on 25 September 2018. The government sponsored health insurance scheme will benefit nearly 50 crore citizens of the country by providing health cover up to Rs 5 lakh per family per year. The claim management support at trusts and insurance agencies will help create ample job opportunities and hence will give rise to the demand for skilled healthcare professionals with degrees like MBA in Healthcare Administration, or MBA in healthcare management.
“The central government’s ambitious public health insurance scheme would create more than 100,000 “long-term” jobs in the next four years,” the programme’s Chief Executive Officer Indu Bhushan said.
“People are expected to be engaged in fields ranging from “implementation support” at central and state levels to claim management support at the trust and insurance agencies in states implementing the scheme. Nearly 25,000 hospitals will be empanelled in the scheme to meet the demand of healthcare services…if we assume that 300 new private hospitals will be opened due to demand created by AB-NHPM and each hospital will employ 200 persons, then directly 60,000 jobs in the hospitals will be created” Bhushan said. Those with related degrees or experience, like an MBA in healthcare management, are likely to be preferred for the top profiles.
Under the health insurance scheme, public will get automatic coverage. Eligibility is based on Socio-Economic Caste Census database.
If you are hospitalized, under the scheme you or your family members do not need to pay anything for the treatment provided you go to any government or empanelled private hospital.
The timing seems to be perfect for anyone who wish to take up a program in healthcare or add on to his or healthcare skills. One such program is an MBA in Healthcare Management being offered by Asia-Pacific Healthcare management, a reputed B school in India, in association with the RUDN University, Moscow. The degree program will impart skills and will prepare you to grab job opportunities offered under Ayushman Bharat Scheme.
